International Panel of Judges

Panasonic has put together a prestigious panel of judges who are leading representatives of Architecture, Building Services and Clients. The judging panel will select award winners after assessing the general criteria:

  • Answering the client’s brief
  • Efficiencies achieved
  • Skill and workmanship
  • Technical innovation

Each category will also have its own Category Criteria – click on the Category page to read the details. Judging will take place during autumn 2016, with the results being announced at an event shortly afterwards.

Norbert Otten

CEO of Drees & Sommer Advanced Building Technologies GmbH

As Partner and CEO of Drees & Sommer Advanced Building Technologies GmbH in Frankfurt, Norbert Otten is an expert in sustainable building and technical asset and construction management. Following a successful career as an energy and domestic engineering project manager at a top swiss engineering firm, Norbert joined Drees & Sommer in 2004. Here, he has been involved in major projects, including the Hybrid Hochhaus T-Rex hotel and high-end residential building, as well as the Tower Centre in Frankfurt and M_Eins office buildings in Berlin.

Paul McLaughlin

CEO of the Building Engineering Services Association (BESA)

Paul McLaughlin is CEO of the Building Engineering Services Association (BESA), the UK's leading trade organisation representing firms active in the design, installation, commissioning, maintenance, control and management of engineering systems and services in buildings. Paul started his career as an Engineering graduate and amassed 25 years of business expertise before taking the helm at BESA in 2015. Paul’s role is to lead the organisation to deliver value and benefit to its members while enhancing the reputation of the sector.

Rafael Úrculo, Spain

Founding partner of Úrculo Engineering Consultancy

Rafael Úrculo is the founding partner of the engineering consultancy, Úrculo Ingenieros Consultores SA which develops projects internationally for a wide variety of facilities, including hospitals, museums, universities, offices and auditoriums. Since 1976, Rafael has been a Professor at the Escuela de Arquitectura de Madrid, and a member of industry associations, including the Association of Spanish Technical Air Conditioning and Refrigeration (ATECYR), the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE) and of the Chartered Institute of Building Services Engineers (CIBSE) in the UK. Alongside his association commitments, Rafael is also a Partner at the Asociación Española de Ingenierías e Ingenieros Consultores de Instalaciones (AEDICI).

Hugues Haentjens

Editor-in-Chief of Chaud Froid Performance

Hugues Haentjens is the Editor-in-Chief of Chaud Froid Performance, a leading French publication that specialises in climatic engineering. Hugues achieved two Higher National Diplomas, one in Thermal Engineering and Energy, and one in journalism, before enjoying a successful career as Editor-in-Chief for a number of leading HVAC trade titles, including La Revue pratique du Froid, Clim Pratique, and L'Installateur.
