Panasonic Reveals a Major Shift in How Europeans Use Their AC Systems
01/07/2025
As temperatures and climate needs evolve across
Europe, Panasonic Heating & Cooling Solutions has
revealed new insights into how Europeans are using their residential climate
systems year-round. Recent research, based on product usage across ten European
countries throughout 2024, reveals that 81% of installed AC units are used
either exclusively for heating or for both heating and cooling, a clear sign
that the role of residential air conditioning is evolving and shows the growing
importance of reliable, all-season comfort solutions in the modern home.
Heating Demands Across Europe
The comprehensive research tracked the
operation of Panasonic’s residential air conditioning products between January
and December 2024, focusing on auto, fan, and dry modes. The data reveals that,
on average, European households run their AC systems in heating mode 72% of the
time.
This trend is particularly pronounced in colder
regions. In Norway, 95.6% of air conditioning usage is dedicated to heating. Denmark
follows closely behind at 94.7%. Notably, even in these cooler climates, a
portion of users still rely on their systems for cooling during warmer periods.
These figures demonstrate that air-to-air systems are highly effective in cold
climates.
In contrast, warmer climates such as Italy and
Spain show different usage patterns, with heating mode used just 43.8% and
42.5% of the time respectively, reflecting expected demand for cooling in these
sunnier countries.
