Harron Homes Meets New Future Home Standard with Sustainable Panasonic Aquarea Heat Pumps

Housing developer, Harron Homes, was looking to adopt renewable heating into its new build housing project at the Nevison’s Fold development in Barnsley, South Yorkshire. The project included a collaborative stakeholder effort from Harron Homes in conjunction with specialists, Secon Renewables, Panasonic, UK Cylinders, Honeywell Home and installers D&R Plumbing & Heating and Steve Wade Electrical, which included utilising the Panasonic Aquarea J Series Monobloc Air-to-Water heat pump.

Seeking to enhance energy efficiency and reduce the carbon footprint of its new builds through an 8-year brownfield site revitalisation project, Harron Homes reached out to Secon Renewables, one of the UK’s leading independent distributors for heat pumps. Secon Renewables turned to Panasonic to provide an energy efficient and sustainable heating system to meet the needs of the incoming Future Homes Standard 2025. To date, D&R Plumbing & Heating and Steve Wade Electrical has installed 50 homes on the site with the Panasonic Aquarea J Series Monobloc air to water heat pumps, with another 277 newly built homes scheduled over the next few years.

The Panasonic Aquarea J Series High Performance heat pump boasts a high energy efficiency of A+++ Energy Class at 35ºC and A++ at 55ºC, plus a high SCOP capacity. Furthermore, the impressive system can work under higher pressure and reach a 65ºC water flow temperature.

The education of heat pumps is vital in a project like this, for upskilling the new and current generations of engineers, to ensure efficient running of the units. Panasonic offers accredited Air-to-Water training courses for engineers, as well as on-going technical support with remote communication and fault-finding processes. The stakeholders attended on-site Panasonic training that was delivered by the team at Secon to cover all aspects of the system design, installation and commissioning. The team additionally provided further training to the sales team at Harron Homes to ensure they were fully on board with the technology and could easily relay user details to the future homeowners of the properties.

From the first installation, we got the units up and running with the Panasonic team on hand to answer any questions. Now we're at a place where we can install the heat pumps to a high quality at a decent pace. We want quick set up, easy installation, and customer friendly products, which is what has been achieved.”
