Rural Shropshire House Transformed by Panasonic Aquarea M Series

31/03/2026

A detached two‑bedroom farm building in rural South Shropshire has been successfully upgraded using a Panasonic Aquarea M Series Monobloc air-to-water heat pump. The project formed part of an extensive refurbishment, with the homeowners eager to replace an ageing oil-fired boiler system with a modern, cost-efficient solution.

Mr & Mrs Hogan’s property presented challenges typical of older, rural buildings and required a solution capable of delivering reliable, sustainable comfort year-round. Following a detailed assessment by Farr & Harris Plumbing Supplies, and installers Jamus Price Plumbing and Heating, a Panasonic Aquarea 9kW M Series Monobloc unit with an internal controller was specified, due to the property’s heat load, which was calculated at approximately 8kW.

The Panasonic M series with R290 refrigerant was chosen for this project, as it allows the system to deliver both heating and hot water at low operating temperatures without reliance on immersion heaters during normal operation, including hot water disinfection cycles.

Smart controls and remote monitoring of the Panasonic unit were imperative to this installation due to its rural location. Anthony Mathewson, Regional Estimator and Renewables Manager for Farr and Harris commented, “The system allows performance monitoring and adjustment remotely, providing reassurance to both homeowner and installer, enabling optimisation of efficiency where required.” On this andany other projects, we work closely with Anthony Mathewson at Farr & Harris on product selection, system design and key technical considerations to ensure every Panasonic system performs at its best. Our shared commitment to continuous improvement, combined with Anthony’s expertise and our focus on high-quality installation, enables us to deliver reliable, high-performing solutions for our customers,” added Jamus Price, Jamus Price Plumbing & Heating.

The heating distribution system was designed with low-temperature efficiency in mind. With underfloor heating throughout the ground floor, panel radiators on the first floor, minimal zoning, and the weather compensation curve currently set to approximately 37°C flow at -5°C, this approach ensures stable operation, minimal cycling and strong seasonal efficiency.

Since installation in October 2025, Mr & Mrs Hogan have been pleasantly surprised at how efficiently the heat pump is operating. They commented, “Having worked with Jamus Price Plumbing & Heating on previous properties, we knew we were in safe hands. The attention to detail is, as always, excellent. The house is lovely and warm and the hot water plentiful. Since installation, the weather has been cold, wet and windy, so it has certainly been put to the test. We’re now looking at moving onto a new electricity tariff so that we can schedule hot water production during the cheaper rate periods, which should increase our savings even further.”

Both the specifier and installer were able to aid the homeowners in their application for the Boiler Upgrade Scheme (BUS), successfully securing a £7,500 grant to help offset the cost of the installation towards a future-proof, energy-efficient solution. As Janus Price Plumbing & Heating are Panasonic Pro Partners, the installation is backed by a seven-year warranty, reassuring the homeowners that their system is fully supported for the future.

The Panasonic M Series is designed for reliable performance even in extreme cold temperatures, due to operating down to -28°C and maintaining capacity without backup heating at -20oC, at a 35°C flow temperature. The Panasonic units are rated A+++ for energy efficiency and use the natural refrigerant R290, with global warming potential (GWP) of just 0.02, making it one of the most sustainable heating systems currently on the market.

Anthony Mathewson added, “The installation is a credit to Jamus Price and his team, who are delivering an increasing number of well-designed and installed heat pump projects across Shropshire and Herefordshire, consistently achieving strong performance outcomes."
