Uden’s Funeral Directors Benefit from Panasonic’s Advanced HVAC System
15/01/2025
Uden’s, a large family run undertakers with seven sites across London and Kent, sought to transform their new site in West Wickham in Kent. This included the installation of a Panasonic low temperature heating and cooling system, utilising PACi NX Elite multi-split units, capable of cooling down to 8oC.
Uden’s Undertakers was founded by Walter Uden in 1881 in London, which has evolved over the last 170 years, with five generations of Uden’s family having been involved and growing the business to now seven sites across London and Kent and still run as a family business by the Uden family. For their West Wickham site, the family sought an HVAC system to deliver efficient heating and cooling across diverse areas, including the reception, back office, arrangement rooms, hallways, chapel of rest, and the preparation and visitors viewing spaces. Maintaining an ambient temperature of 8-10oC was crucial for specific areas.
Panasonic collaborated with experienced HVAC installer, Ken Lockwood of FLR Spectron Ltd (FLR), to provide an energy-efficient HVAC solution tailored to the customer requirements. The installation included five Panasonic PACi split room air conditioning units, offering optimal heating and cooling for the various spaces.
FLR specified Panasonic’s energy-efficient mix and match low-temperature refrigeration PACi NX Elite multi split units with nanoeTM X technology as the ideal solution for this project. These units provide high energy-savings, powerful performance, reliability, and consistent comfort throughout the space. The units offer a high quality and an efficient solution for low-temperature applications for facilities such as mortuaries. These units are also ideal for wine cellars, food processing facilities and supermarkets.
The Panasonic PACi NX series covers a wide range of capacities from 2.5 to 25kW. The range offers flexibility with different types of indoor units to mix and match with the outdoor units, along with a wide scale of control options from individual, central and cloud solutions.
A standout feature of the PACi NX series is its ability to operate in special conditions, maintaining room temperatures down as low as 8oC – a key requirement for the Uden’s project. Other unique Panasonic features include the modern, compact design of the indoor units, the six directional piping outlets for flexible installation and high efficiency. Additionally, all units feature nanoeTM X technology, further enhancing their appeal over competitors.
A key focus in the design of the project was ensuring the customer comfort, health and safety. The system has been fitted with nanoe™ X, a natural innovation with an inhibitory effect on both airborne and adhered substances with recent testing showing that nanoe™ X can inhibit certain types of bacteria and viruses, meaning the new Panasonic HVAC system can help protect customers and staff alike whilst on-site.
Ken Lockwood of FLR Ltd commented, “Having worked with Panasonic and the team for a number of years, we’ve consistently been impressed with Panasonic’s performance compared to competitor brands currently on the market. The support provided during the design phase, throughout the installation and aftercare has been both reliable and efficient, making the decision to support a Panasonic solution an easy step to make.
Ben Uden of Uden’s Undertakers added, “We are delighted with FLR Ltd and the Panasonic installation at the West Wickham site. The system delivers extremely even temperatures throughout the space, resulting in the decision to specify and install the Panasonic systems into further projects in the future.”
