Panasonic Provides Sustainable Refrigeration Solution for PRO Award Winning Aerospace Project
11/11/2025

An Aerospace company sought a solution for an aerospace
project, which required some products to be stored at -25oC, with a
prechill cold store temperature of 2oC. The company were looking for
an environmentally friendly solution. Refrigeration specialist installers, Green
Cooling Ltd designed and specified eight Panasonic cold chain refrigeration condensing
units due to their reliability, precise temperature control and use of the more
natural refrigerant, R744 (CO2), which has a GWP of 1, making the
units the idea choice for this project.
David Blinkhorn, of Green Cooling
commented, “The Panasonic condensing refrigeration units were an easy choice to
select for this project and came out on top compared to the competitor units. The
units not only met the environmentally friendly criteria, but they are also capable
of keeping a precise and constant temperature and minimises
fluctuations, which was crucial for preserving the critical storage
temperatures in this project. The system design has sufficient capacity to
handle the required cooling load, with potential for redundancy to ensure
continuous operation. The Panasonic units are known for their reliability and robust failsafe technology of
the compressors.”
The eight Panasonic units, six
of which are 10HP and two are 4HP, are highly efficient due to their low energy
consumption compared to other products currently on the market. They are
suitable for both refrigerated and freezer cold rooms, providing a
comprehensive solution for all commercial refrigeration needs. Specifically
developed for small to medium capacity applications, these units can function
in outdoor temperatures as low as -20ºC, ensuring consistent performance even
in challenging conditions.

The innovative two-stage rotary compressor and split-cycle
technology of the units optimise the refrigeration cycle, leading to a
significant reduction in energy consumption compared to traditional HFC
systems. This translates to lower operating costs, plus provides a high Coefficient
of Performance (COP), at high ambient temperatures.
David continued “The client expressed strong support for
the project, particularly highlighting the environmental advantages of using a
natural refrigerant, which aligns closely with their sustainability objectives
and strengthens their brand reputation. They’ve also been impressed by the
unit’s operational efficiency, especially given the site is located where
weather conditions can be challenging. The quiet operation of the units has
been especially valued, as they operate within a noise-sensitive environment
subject to strict regulatory standards.”

This project was recently announced
as a Panasonic PRO Award 2025 winner as a standout project in the Refrigeration
sector for Europe. This was due to the Panasonic refrigeration units’
exceptional energy efficiency that directly reduces operational carbon
emissions, supporting the business in achieving their sustainability
objectives. Their proven reliability further minimises downtime and maintenance
expenses, ensuring uninterrupted and a cost-effective solution. This
combination of sustainability and operational resilience has enabled the
aerospace company to avoid costly disruptions and maintain smooth, continuous
operations in a highly demanding storage environment.
